Consensus & Architecture
Twenty-one elected validators produce blocks every ~3 seconds under proof-of-staked-authority. Throughput is excellent and fees negligible — because consensus among 21 known parties is easy. There is no mechanism by which this set meaningfully resists coordinated control; past chain halts and freezes demonstrate where power sits.
Tokenomics
BNB began as an exchange token (fee discounts, launchpad access) and became chain gas. Quarterly auto-burns reduce supply toward a 100M target. Ownership concentrates heavily around Binance and early holders — verifiable on-chain, and the single largest decentralization caveat.
Ecosystem
One of crypto’s busiest chains by transaction count: DEX volume (PancakeSwap), memecoins, games, and payments, all drawn by sub-cent fees. Binance’s exchange, wallet, and launchpad funnel users on-chain continuously.
Risks
- Validator micro-set: 21 validators is compromisable by coercion, bribery, or shared infrastructure failure.
- Exchange dependence: Binance controls listing, liquidity pipelines, and much of the stake-adjacent power.
- Regulatory surface: a named corporation plus named validators equals seizable, sanctionable infrastructure.
