A whitepaper is the founding technical document of a crypto project — Satoshi’s 9-page Bitcoin paper is the archetype: problem, design, math, and motivation in plain view. Serious projects publish one before asking for a dollar; scams publish marketing decks *called* whitepapers.

Why it matters

Reading (or skimming) the whitepaper separates investors from gamblers: the consensus design, token distribution, and team assumptions are all in there — or conspicuously absent. No whitepaper, anonymous team, and a live token sale is the complete red-flag bingo card. Nine pages once changed money forever; demand at least coherence before funding anything.
