Max supply is the hard cap on how many tokens will ever exist — 21 million for Bitcoin, none at all for inflationary tokens like ETH or SOL. It’s set in code (or by governance) and defines the asset’s scarcity story.

Why it matters

“Capped supply” is crypto’s core scarcity pitch, but the number alone means little without the *emission schedule*: 21M arriving over 140 years behaves nothing like 1B unlocking in two. Scarcity is a schedule, not a slogan — read both numbers.
