A bridge moves assets or messages between blockchains — you deposit tokens on chain A, and equivalent tokens are minted on chain B. Bridges are how ecosystems share liquidity, and they come in many flavors (custodial, optimistic, ZK, light-client).
Why it matters
Bridges are routinely called the most dangerous software in crypto: the mechanism that proves “someone sent X on chain A and deserves Y on chain B” is trusted with enormous value, and hacked bridges have lost billions. “Bridging?” usually means “accepting that specific protocol’s security.”
