Oracle
A bridge that feeds real-world data — prices, weather, sports results — into smart contracts.
An oracle brings off-chain data onto a blockchain. Smart contracts can’t browse the internet, so oracles deliver the facts they need — a token’s price, a stock’s value, a flight’s status — as signed data the contract can trust.
The trust problem
If an oracle reports a wrong price, contracts built on it act on that wrong price — trading, lending, and liquidating on false data. Decentralized oracle networks aggregate many independent sources so no single provider can corrupt the feed.
Why analysts track oracles
Oracles are critical infrastructure: dozens of protocols quietly rely on them. An oracle that fails, gets manipulated, or concentrates dangerously can destabilize the whole DeFi stack built above it.
