A satoshi (“sat”) is the smallest unit of Bitcoin: 0.00000001 BTC, or one hundred-millionth of a coin. Named after Satoshi Nakamoto, sats are the unit of everyday Bitcoin life — coffee priced in sats, Lightning payments counted in sats.

“You can’t afford a whole Bitcoin” misses the point entirely — Bitcoin is divisible to 8 decimals, and nobody buys whole coins to start. Thinking in sats reframes Bitcoin from luxury asset to usable money, which is exactly how adoption actually spreads.
