Interoperability is blockchains talking to each other — moving assets, data, and calls across networks via bridges, shared protocols (IBC on Cosmos), or multi-chain designs (Polkadot). The vision: many specialized chains acting like one system.
Why it matters
No single chain will do everything, so the seams between chains are where the ecosystem’s value — and risk — concentrates. Every interoperability mechanism is a trust assumption to audit: IBC light clients are strong, multisig-guarded bridges much less so. The future is multi-chain; the present is multi-risk.
