Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) is a consensus variant where token holders vote for a small set of delegates — often 21–100 — who take turns producing blocks. Instead of thousands of validators, a rotating committee runs the chain, which makes it very fast.
Why it matters
DPoS trades decentralization for speed quite openly: fewer block producers means faster finality but an easier target for collusion or coercion. When you see a chain advertising huge TPS on DPoS, ask who the current delegates are and how concentrated their votes have become.
