Snapshot voting is off-chain governance polling: token balances are recorded (“snapshotted”) at a block, holders sign gas-free votes, and results are tallied without touching the chain. Most DAOs debate and temperature-check here before any binding on-chain execution.
Why it matters
Gas-free voting massively raises participation — but Snapshot results don’t execute themselves, so the gap between “the vote passed” and “the multisig did it” is where governance theater lives. Treat Snapshot as the community’s voice and the on-chain execution (or its absence) as the truth.
