The W3D Team is an independent research group tracking decentralization across the blockchain industry. We publish data-driven audits, exchange reviews, and Web3 explainers built from public on-chain and network data — not from vendor marketing.
What we do
Our core output is the Blockchain Decentralization Audit series: for each chain we estimate a Nakamoto coefficient and a 0–100 decentralization score across four pillars — infrastructure, capital, governance, and software. Every score is published with its underlying data and refreshed on a recurring basis so readers can compare chains on the same methodology.
Alongside the audits, we maintain the Web3 Decentralization Intelligence Terminal — an interactive tool for exploring decentralization metrics at a glance — plus practical guides on exchanges, staking, wallets, taxes, and security.
Our methodology
All scores follow the same transparent process: collect public resource-distribution data (node counts, validator sets, governance structures, client implementations), compute the minimum coalition needed to control each subsystem, and weight the pillars into a single score. Independence
We are not paid by any chain or exchange to change a score. Where articles link to exchanges, the links use click-tracking so we can measure which services our readers actually prefer; that data helps us keep coverage useful, but it never determines how a chain is scored. A low score is published the same way a high one is.
