The halving is Bitcoin’s programmed supply cut: roughly every four years (every 210,000 blocks), the block reward miners earn is cut in half — 50 → 25 → 12.5 → 6.25 → 3.125 BTC, continuing until ~2140. New supply shrinks while demand decides the price.

Why it matters

Halvings are crypto’s most reliable narrative events — each one tightens the flow of new coins and historically preceded major bull runs (correlation, causation, and speculation all debated). More fundamentally, the halving schedule *is* Bitcoin’s monetary policy: disinflationary, automatic, and unchangeable without forking the network.
