Quadratic voting makes each additional vote on one option cost quadratically more voice-credits (1 vote = 1 credit, 2 votes = 4, 10 votes = 100) — punishing single-issue whales while letting intensity of preference still register. Gitcoin Grants used it to distribute millions to public goods.
Why it matters
One-token-one-vote quietly means one-whale-one-outcome; quadratic math is the most serious attempt at fairer on-chain voice. It doesn’t fix Sybil attacks (creating many voters is still cheap without identity) — which is why it works best paired with some personhood check, and why pure-token DAOs keep defaulting to plutocracy with better slogans.
